MAC T. MONKEY Jr.

Age: 22
Mac had an energy problem growing up, as in far too much of it. Many things were attempted, from medicating to constantly changing his diet to restricting his activities.
The more he started looking like his dad, the more gears started turning, with attempts to groom him early on to reprise his aging father’s role and one day inherit the company. He didn’t respond well.
Eventually he lead his manager, Claire Domani, to quit in hysterics. A mix of guilt and a growing crush had him convincing her to take her job back — that task was easy, compared to his later quest to woo her. While more responsible, he’s a little too eager to just let things be, worried if he makes waves that Claire won’t stick around.
Mac likes playing football simulator video games, but he doesn’t like football. He also likes beer, spy films and hats. Even though he has access to a lot of money, his apartment is very meager — there just aren’t a lot of things Mac wants. Aside from Claire. He won’t spend the night in Claire’s apartment, it is too “creepy” in her room, he says.
CLAIRE DOMANI

Age: 27
Claire is the only child of her estranged parents, who have been on a honeymoon abroad for the last 30 years, sent to live with her famous socialite grandmother at the age of 5. As a little girl she had aspiration to be in cartoons, but adulthood dealt her a busty figure unfit for children’s cartoons. She ended up accepting a pity job as an intern.
She became Mac Jr.’s manager, and Mac was the final straw that broke her back. In spite of that she became romantically involved with him — though those aren’t stories she’s too eager to tell. In fact she’s still a bit embarrassed. But she’s coming around.
Claire has always been on edge, as past experience taught her that things can and will go terribly wrong in very colorful ways. She’s trying to cool off, just hang out with Mac more often. She even gave up smoking.
Claire has many coping mechanisms and is quick to reward herself with rich food and drink… none of which is helping her figure. Doesn’t know her own middle name, has never seen her original birth certificate. Doesn’t care much though.

CAROLINA MARIE TAYLOR

Age: 19
Carolina was fostered and then adopted by a human family. Any chores her parents attempted to give her fell to her brother after she laid on the puppy eyes, along with farm chores she couldn’t do, being very small.
Wanting to wait for the right time to tell her about being adopted, her parents ended piling on the “the little white lies” and omissions of truth until there was no turning back.
On a whim she auditioned for a role in a cartoon. She became Mac’s new co-star, and the first to play the role of “Mac’s Girlfriend” in decades. Her impulsive decision to get breast augmentation ended up a tiny bump in the road after Claire swooped in to be her manager.
Brother convinced her that her eyes got “stuck that way.” She doesn’t like eating meat. She has body image issues, having held herself to normal human standards for years.
—
ROGER BRAUN

Age: 68
Roger was originally one of Mac Sr.’s costars, even though he’d been pursuing a law degree at the time. Would never live down his role as the clumsy idiot, but has learned to embrace it in his old age.
Has been married to Gabby, twice. She broke it off both times thanks to him being a “giant prick.” He still feels guilty, and its one of the factors that’s lead to him just not giving a [insert expletive of choice] these days and mellowing out considerably. Now he just likes to give people a hard time, though while being snarky he will still give anyone the time of day.
He can’t help but find it weird to be colleagues with people he used to begrudgingly babysit.
Was good friends with Debbie Domani, Claire’s Grandmother, even after both of their careers waned, being one of the only people she respected. He likes golf but is bad at it thanks to his inherent clumsiness. Owes a lady named Tony a lot of ice cream.

GABRIELLE “GABBY” GOAT

Age: 65
Gabby hasn’t had it easy over the years. Her closest friend died decades ago, she has been married and divorced twice, and her brother is in jail for a very long time for things that make remaining friends with Mac Sr. and his family very, very awkward. All of these people once being co-stars on the same show only makes things twice as awkward.
But she’s remained pretty chipper, taking up several hobbies, like knitting, ceramics, cake decorating, and gossip. Gossiping is her favorite, and the internet was, to her, the best invention ever.
Really likes the color purple. Keeps a brick in her purse, you know, just in case. Has never dated anyone but Roger, though there used to speculation regarding an old friendship of hers — speculation that would get you bludgeoned with a purse-brick for being “disrespectful.”
—
KELLY LORRAINE MONKEY

Age: 25
Convinced she’d be the only child considering her father’s age, Kelly is her parent’s “baby,” and has remained so even after the birth of her brother, Mac, and her maturation into an adult.
In spite of this (or because of it), Kelly strives to be independent. She’s self motivated, and writes and performs music for a kid’s show on the same network as her brother. Has a band with Fran and Praline. While she’s much smarter than her brother, she’s also much sillier and it makes being taken seriously a bit difficult.
She hates conflict, and will settle and compromise if it makes everyone else happy — even if it means neglecting herself. She will never speak up if she wants something if it might offend or inconvenience someone else.
Kelly’s teeth are too big and too numerous for her mouth, and though she’s had teeth pulled, she still has problems enunciating words, so her speech is usually low and muffled so as not to draw attention. She loves kids, but is terrified of most animals. She likes to collect and wear vintage men’s shoes. Has a knack for breaking into her brother’s apartment.

MAC T. MONKEY Sr.

Age: 74
Once quite the prankster, many events — among them the accidental death of a friend and co-star — have brought the very happy-go-lucky Mac down to Earth. Just as nice as he ever was, these day’s he’s a little neurotic and worries far too much about everyone but himself. He has been retired due to poor health for almost 7 years, but is in denial to the point of still attending company meetings.
He didn’t mean to fall head over heels for someone almost 30 years younger than him, and he really didn’t mean to be having kids at 50. But these things happen, and he will tell you he has no regrets about any of his decisions.
Well, except being convinced to start working at home. He’s getting bored.
Really likes scarves and shawls, more so now that he’s always cold. Used to have a corgi named Sir Snuggly Britches that lived to be about 20 — he wishes he could have another dog, but his wife isn’t too keen on the idea. Wants Mac and Claire to get married, and is a bit mad that his son hasn’t taken the initiative.
—
CASSIDY MONKEY

Age: 55
Cassidy emancipated herself and ended up stuck in the Toon Quarter, cleaning houses, scrubbing toilets and waiting tables — but as long as she didn’t have to live with her parents again, it was all worth it.
Her mind always on her work, she didn’t even notice that one of her regular patrons was a famous cartoon star. Nor that he had been making eyes at her the entire time. When he offered her a job, she knew better than to not take it.
That’s how she ended up on TV, playing Mac Sr.’s on-screen girlfriend. She was terrible. Realizing this was because Mac was sweet on her, she quit in exchange for a proper date. She knows Mac Sr.’s circle of friends still regard her as a moron, particularly Roger, but frankly she just doesn’t care enough to correct them.
Was born with the name Chastity Hope Loris. Made everyone call her Cassidy, and as soon as she was old enough changed it legally. She’s very happy her kids are grown up and out of her house, having always had to be the stern parent in her far-too-nice husband’s place.
—
FRANCINE LISETTE HUAN

Age: 22
Fran is outspoken and bold, which is something her two quiet room/bandmates need, if you ask her. Went through a dark “nerdy” phase with Praline and, though still friends, is always worried Praline is going to open her big mouth at the wrong moment and make her look like a freak.
These days Fran likes Toons and Japanese fashion trends. She has been attempting to combine these loves into some sort of Toon-Lolita look. It hasn’t caught on, but she’s not giving up yet. Her love of Toons might borderline on fetish, but don’t use that word around her. She won’t appreciate it. With her foot. In your face.
She’s a little too hot-headed and easy to rile, which might be why she and Mac butted heads so much. She likes to sing, and is pretty good at it, but feels like she’s the only person taking the band seriously — Kelly is too distracted with other jobs, and Praline… is too busy being Praline.
Her parents don’t mind that she dresses like a porcelain doll. Her mother says she could just as easily be running around half-naked with a bad crowd — she thinks, what kind of trouble could Fran be getting into dressed like that?
—

Age: 24
Yes, Praline is a person and not some kind of plant monster. Yes, that might be algae in her dreads, but you don’t have to be rude about it.
Praline is the ultimate slacker and queen of not giving a flying flip. Her single-dad runs an exotic pet store, and she has too many pets to remember their names. Her roommates would have made her cut down the numbers if it wasn’t Praline’s house. She has more friends and connections than her famous friends and is never at a loss for someone to hang out with or a hook-up.
She is the drummer in a band with Kelly and Fran, and she might be a good drummer if she ever showed up to practice. Most of the time she’s too busy playing engrossing computer games and writing very weird fiction. Friends are trying to break her of her strict cereal-milk-and-soda diet.

JACKSON MALORY TAYLOR

Age: 19
Growing up with Carolina wasn’t easy. He ended up with all of her chores, and when he figured out on his own she was adopted, he was charged with helping their parents keep the truth from her. Maybe being overworked and paranoid at 11-years-old lead him to take out frustrations on Carolina. His favorite thing to do when she was smaller was put her on top of the fridge and leave her there. And hanging her from the Christmas tree. And threatening her with the riding lawn mower.
He’s a bit of a clean freak, though whether he was born that way or it developed from all of his chores, he isn’t sure. But he knows he doesn’t have patience for messes, crybabies and slackers. If you’ve got a problem, it is probably because you aren’t working hard enough.
In spite of his strength and stature, Jackson doesn’t believe in fighting. Or cussing. Or drinking. He’s all about non-violent resistance and everyone doing their part and getting along. Though all of these policies leave room for him to torment his sister.
He likes listening to big band, jazz and pop variations on the two. He would like to learn how to cook, more so now that he’s rooming with Carolina — he’s seen what she considers “food.” His hat is very old and dusty, but it makes him feel secure because it smells like home.
